OTT Platforms or Over The Top content streaming websites have changed the landscape of the media and entertainment industry. In the last five years, the trend of online viewership has taken content consumption to entirely different levels.

OTT websites have changed the way the content is created, consumed, and distributed around the world. Long gone are the days when you had to rent a DVD from the nearest seller to enjoy the content you liked. Now, you can rewatch your favorite shows and movies as many times as you want.

Factors Leading to Increased OTT Consumption:

1. Marketing:

There’s a famous saying, “If you’re unheard, you’ll get swept underneath.” The OTT platforms have gone on to take this a bit too seriously by marketing themselves in the best possible way. A big thanks to social media websites, the featured advertisement campaigns have enhanced the visibility of OTT platforms.

2. Availability:

Why would people consider a paid service online for watching content rather than thinking about watching it on TV? A simple answer to this is the availability, and that you cannot carry your tv screens with you while traveling anywhere. A data plan with an OTT subscription will do the work for you.One of the main reasons why OTT platforms are so in demand is because of their association with internet or telephone service providers. For example, in the Central and Eastern region of the USA, Cricket Wireless is offering streaming services on Hulu, Netflix, and HBO Max to their customers on monthly packages. Such offers can also boost content consumption.

3. Region-wise Programming:

Regional trends and niches are always enjoyed by the people who are digitally linked to them. These regional trends differentiate the streaming and programming aspects of content on both TV & OTT platforms.

OTT platforms have this feature of providing trending content to their consumers. This is a common practice followed by nearly all the streaming websites. Initially, it was started by YouTube, but now it is a common practice all around.

4. Ease of Plan Selection:

One of the reasons why people consider OTT platforms over perpetual wired connections is their ease of subscription. There are no poured concrete wall commitments in their subscription plans, and a person can discontinue their subscription whenever they want.

Users from different regions would consider opting different OTT platforms due to their flexible subscription offers. According to research made by Economic Times, the number of OTT subscriptions in Asia has doubled due to flexible subscription plans.

According to a tech enthusiast, “With the advancement in technology, people will go with the flow and leave the primitive technology or even the things which give them a thought of primitivity.”
