The Ultimate Patriotic Song List For Independence Week

The 14th of August is close by, but due to the pandemic, we might be unable to join gatherings to celebrate Pakistan’s Day of Independence. We’ve come up with a list of patriotic songs that you can listen to and share with your friends to keep your spirits high.

Dil Na Lagay // Faakhir

Faakhir’s Dil Na Lagay was an instant hit. In this song, Faakhir narrates a tale of love and the feeling of his country. Upbeat and cheery, Dil Na Lagay unfolds how our familiarity with our country and culture doesn’t let us forget it no matter where we are or what we’re doing.

Mein Tou Dekhounga // Strings

If it’s by Strings then it has got to be a part of our favorites list. A song about hope, Mein Tou Dekhounga envisions a bright future for the citizens of Pakistan and listening to it just makes us wish for it to come true. Even though Strings released it nine years ago, we’re still anticipating that future. So in times like this, such songs of hope keep us going.

Is Parcham Ke Saye Taley // Nayyara Noor

Want to take a stroll down memory lane? Then this is the song for you. Every Pakistani will remember singing this song in school at 8.30 in the morning during assembly on Independence Day celebrations every year. It doesn’t come as a surprise that this classic is played during 14th August celebrations, what with how it relates that we’re all equal and can unite against all odds.

Laga Reh // Shehzad Roy

This one’s a given (it’s very necessary to note that we promised a patriotic song list and not a nationalist one!). This song focuses on social issues, much like any other track from Shehzad Roy’s sixth album Qismat Apne Haath Mein, which he released in 2008. Laga Reh forces us to acknowledge that Pakistan has a lot of flaws, which makes us think of how we can unite and help fix them.

Hai Koi Hum Jaisa // Strings

Released by Strings in a combined album, this song was the anthem of the Cricket World Cup 2003. This song encapsulates all the love we have for the Pakistani cricket team, and hence for Pakistan as well.

Mera Paigham Pakistan // Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Who doesn’t want to listen to the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s enticing voice singing praises for Pakistan? Listening to this beautiful song, especially around Independence Day, would make anyone tear up with joy and the hope for a brighter future for our country.

Junoon Se Aur Ishq Se // Junoon

Unlike traditional styles, Junoon Se falls under the genre of rock. The song narrates the struggles of the Pakistani people, reminding us of the fight for independence to get where we are now, and where we could be if we stay united.
