Copywriting once used to be the preferred option for marketing copy, but not anymore. Because now, in the age of blogging, content writing matters just as much, if not more. If your brand has a blog, you must know what kind of writing you should focus on delivering the greatest benefit to your target audience. For that, you must now understand the difference between content writing and copywriting, and which one is best for your brand.
Copywriting has one major goal which is generating sales and revenue. It has more to do with sales emails and letters, commercials and ads etc. Copywriting means selling your brand to your consumers through your words.
Meanwhile, content writing comprises blogs, social media posts, emails etc. the goal of which are to inform your consumers and educate as well as entertain them. Content writing has more to do with getting engagements and generating organic traffic for your blog.
Content writing is important for your blog because it helps generate traffic. It is also important because it helps make sure that over time your audience has started trusting you and will be interested in any of your future products. This is where copywriting comes in. Copywriting sells. It is about being able to convince your audience that they need your products or services and getting them to click the button to buy it.
In a way, content writing deals with forming the opinions of a target audience and copywriting deals with getting them to buy your product based on that opinion. Thus, both copywriting and content writing go hand in hand, though you must understand what your brand needs the most at a specific time.
Another difference between the both is that although they are complimentary, both content writing and copywriting depend on the language and style you are using. A content writer would not be able to sell a product as efficiently as a copywriter does. Meaning that before knowing when to use which method, one must also learn both these skills to use them effectively.
In the end, the question isn’t that which method is better for you; the question is whether you know how and when to effectively use both content writing and copywriting to receive a wider organic traffic and also be able to generate revenue.
